The municipality of Casares is divided into two distinct areas: Casares Costa, the beachside area, with residential developments, a shopping centre and bars and restaurants. It is ideally situated for exploring the western end of the Costa del Sol, from Marbella and Estepona, to Sotogrande, including Gibraltar and the province of Cádiz. The old historic town of Casares is situated in the mountains, a little further inland, at 430m above sea level. It is a typical example of an Andalusian white village, with steep and narrow winding streets, and white houses.
